Edmond E. Hughes, Jr. is Vice President, Human Resources & Administration (HR&A) for Ingalls Shipbuilding. He is responsible for leading all aspects of the human resources function related to the attraction, development and retention of the workforce. Areas of responsibility include talent acquisition, environmental, health & safety, labor and employee relations, compensation & benefits, learning & development, diversity & inclusion, security, and business ethics. He was named to this position in March 2006.
Edmond has human resource and leadership experience with General Motors and TRW Automotive. Before joining Ingalls Shipbuilding, he was Director of Human Resources for the North America Braking & Suspension product line of TRW which included responsibilities for all HR services for 13 manufacturing plants located in three countries. He has served in various functional areas of Human Resources with an extensive background in manufacturing environments, labor negotiations in unionized facilities, succession planning and implementation of human capital initiatives both nationally and internationally.
Edmond holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from Tougaloo College and an MBA from Indiana University.
An active member of the community, Edmond was recognized by The Sun Herald as one of the South Mississippi’s Outstanding Community Leaders, by the Coast Young Professionals with the Forever Young Award for mentoring and by ourMississippi magazine as one of the State’s Most Influential African Americans. He serves on the board of directors of the Alabama/Mississippi National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the State Workforce Investment Board (SWIB) and Mississippi Gulf Coast YMCA. He also serves on the board of trustees for Tougaloo College. Edmond is a 2012 graduate of Leadership Mississippi.
