Ralph Johnson: Duty and Sacrifice
Medal of Honor recipient Private First Class Ralph Johnson is the namesake of the guided missile destroyer DDG 114. His courage inspiring valor and selfless devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
The Start Fab milestone represents the first cut of steel for construction of a ship. Ship sponsor Georgeann McRaven pressed the button that started the steel-cutting machine, signifying start of fabrication for the Aegis guided missile destroyer Ralph Johnson (DDG 114).
Ralph Johnson shipbuilders lift into place the grand block containing the steering gear room, the recovery assistance equipment room and the ships laundry.
DDG 114 is crowned as shipbuilders erect the deckhouse.
